Te Apounga Trust was born out of three wāhine Māori wanting to better utilise PhD research (completed in 2022) for the good of the hapori communities in which they live and work.
The PhD research was initially focussed on Emotional Literacy (EL) and wove western knowledge and elements of Te Maramataka (Māori Lunar Calendar) together. The research was enhanced by knowledge shared by Matua Rereata Makiha (Ngai Tuteauru, Te Mahurehure, Ngāti Pākau, Te Aupouri, Te Arawa) who has also subsequently approved the use of the Trust name.
We stand on the shoulders of the mahi of our whānau Frank and Judy Solomon.
Their values and vision shape who we are today. Their never-ending belief that every individual is unique, has worth and dignity, is present in our daily lives and this mahi that we are choosing to deliver together.
He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!
